Lamborghini
The Lamborghini car company traces back to
Italian founder Ferruccio Lamborghini, who became
fascinated with engines when he worked in the
Italian Air Force’s mechanic corps. After
the war ended, he bought several surplus military
machines and reconfigured them in to tractors,
since there was a shortage of this kind of machinery
in Italy at the time.
Ferruccio soon expanded his business and began
building heaters and air conditioning units,
but he was unsatisfied with his work. An avid
racer and an enthusiast of race cars, he wanted
to drive an automobile that would outdo the
Ferrari, the most popular luxury car rental of the time, in both speed and style. This led
him to create the very first Lamborghini car
in 1963.
Built around a 3.50liter four-cam V12 engine,
the first car, the 350 GT, was incredibly powerful
for it’s time, but not quite as popular
as the second exotic car rental Ferrucio built
– the mid-engine Miura. Though building
cars was Ferrucio’s passion, he was unable
to keep up with the finances and was forced
to sell the company in the early 1970’s.
New ownership meant new technology and in the
early 1980’s the company released the
Countach, which boasted several new, sharp angles
and vents that were able to cool the engine
more quickly. However, this new Lamborghini
car rental was unable to produce enough money
and the company was sold was again – first
to Chrysler and then to Volkswagen, who currently
maintains control of the brand.
Though the Lamborghini vehicles still reflect
the sporty design and impressive performance
introduced by Feruccio in the early 1950’s,
the brand has benefited a lot from the technology
available through Volkswagen. Catering to a
small, wealthy audience who appreciates the
quality of a good car, Lamborghini is now one
of the premier sports car manufacturers in the
world and the one to beat when it comes to competition.
