Land Rover

The Land Rover car rental originates in World War II, when British brothers Spencer and Maurice Wilks were impressed by the versatility of the Jeep when it was used as a military vehicle. Teaming up with auto manufacturer Rover, the brothers sought to create a similar vehicle for the everyday consumer. The result was one of the most luxurious sport utility vehicles in history.

Rugged, rough and ready for any kind of terrain, Land Rovers combine style, comfort and power and are incredibly popular on all continents. The first luxury car rental, released in 1948, was the Series I, which was built with permanent four-wheel drive, optional doors and a canvas rude. Though the vehicle wasn’t much to look at, it was fairly successful and was incredibly capable of driving off road, which is exactly what the Wilks brothers set out to do.

As the Land Rover evolved, the company began producing more refined, powerful and luxurious models. The Series II, launched exactly 10 years after it’s predecessor, included additional horsepower and a redesigned body style to make the SUV seem softer and more approachable from the outside. The company’s first diesel-powered Rover was released in the early 1960′s.

Land Rover found most of it’s success in 1970, when the company produced the Range Rover, the most popular Land Rover car rental. With a body made entirely out of aluminum, the vehicle was surprisingly light weight and was powered by a V8 engine. Several other Range Rover models have since been released and the SUV continues to reign as the king of luxury SUVs. Though many other luxury automobile manufacturers have released similar sport utility vehicles, Land Rover remains a step ahead of the rest in terms of power, style and luxurious amenities.
